A fast moving fire in Franklin Twp sent a man to the hospital with injuries this morning, according to police.
The Franklin Township Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a fire at Classic Motors, 3553 Route 27, in the Franklin Park section of the Township shortly after 9:30 a.m.
Upon arrival officers found the structure fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from Franklin Township and surrounding jurisdictions arrived on scene to battle the blaze.
Firefighters from the Franklin Township Office of Fire Prevention are on scene and conducting an investigation into the incident.
Mutual Aid Coordinators from Somerset County and representatives from the Somerset County Haz-Mat Team were on scene as well.
The fire was placed under control by 11 a.m.
The initial investigation revealed that the 68-year-old owner was working on a vehicle in the building when the fire started.
It appears that fuel came in contact with a droplight and ignited. The male attempted to extinguish the fire, but it quickly burned out of control.
He was transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation.
There were several cars in the building at the time of the fire.
Route 27 is expected to be closed into the early afternoon hours while firefighters continue to extinguish hot spots in the structure.
