Authorities in Hudson County are investigating a shooting incident that left a man with serious injuries early Saturday morning.

While police work to determine the exact location of the shooting, the investigation began when officials at Jersey City Medical Center notified law enforcement around 1:25 a.m. that a male had arrived at the emergency room suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers responded to the hospital to take a report and launch an active investigation. However, as of now, police have not confirmed where the victim was shot.

Hours before the victim arrived at the hospital, police had been dispatched to the area of Merseles and Bright Street around 4:20 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of gunfire.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found evidence confirming that a shooting had occurred. After canvassing the area, no victims were located at that time.

Authorities have not yet determined whether the Merseles Street shooting and the early morning walk-in hospital case are connected.

The investigation remains active as officials work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
