Authorities in Essex County are seeking a suspect wanted in connection with a violent and deadly shooting that occurred in Newark's South Ward late Friday night.
The incident took place around 11:04 p.m., drawing police to a residential area at 147 Dewey Street following reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim, unconscious and unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the head. It was reported that the assailant produced a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the scene.
Despite emergency medical efforts, the victim was tragically pronounced dead shortly after the encounter.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken the lead in this investigation, looking into the circumstances that led to this deadly shooting.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspect's identity remains unknown.
This incident has heightened concerns over safety in the area, with authorities calling for any witnesses or information that might aid their investigation.
