A man was rushed to University Hospital after being shot early Saturday morning in downtown Newark.
The shooting occurred around 4:40 a.m. near the intersection of West Kinney and Washington Street.
A ShotSpotter device alerted police to gunfire in the area of 440 Washington Street. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, who was conscious and alert, suffering from a gunshot wound.
While securing the scene, police also discovered a vehicle struck by bullets, though the car was unoccupied at the time.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
Authorities are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.
