One of two gunshot victims suffered severe injuries after gunfire rang out in Newark’s South Ward this morning.
The broad daylight shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Astor Street.
Police say ShotSpotter devices activated on Astor Street, Clinton Avenue and Frelinguysen Avenure after a gunman fire over a dozen rounds.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a severely wounded male suffering a bullet wound to his neck.
EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital for treatment while detectives canvassed the area for additional victims.
Police officials learned of a second gunshot victim who entered the emergency room about 15 minutes later.
Authorities believe that the suspect fled the scene in a light-colored vehicle and remain at large.
