The Newark Police Department is searching for an armed suspect who discharged a firearm, striking a male victim multiple times during an incident that occurred overnight in Newark.
Authorities were alerted to the incident when reports of shots fired led them to the Exxon Gas station at the intersection of West Market Street and Central Avenue.
Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered a male victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest.
The victim, as yet unidentified, was in serious condition and promptly received medical attention from EMS personnel. He was transported to University Hospital for further treatment.
According to preliminary information, the suspect managed to leave the scene before the arrival of law enforcement officers and is currently at large.
Newark police have initiated a thorough search to locate the armed individual.
As of now, the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. Authorities are diligently working to piece together the events leading up to the incident and to identify the suspect responsible for this act of violence.
Newark Police officials are urging anyone with information related to the incident or the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
