Essex County authorities are looking for a suspect responsible for shooting a male victim dead in Newark on Monday night.
The violent shooting episode happened just before 8 p.m. near 88 South 9th Street.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a gunman approached the victims and began firing multiple rounds in his chest.
Police arrived at the scene and found the victim bleeding heavily after sustaining nearly a half dozen bullet wounds.
According to officials, the unidentified male was pronounced dead by medical personnel at University Hospital.
While at the medical center, Rutgers Police requested NJIT and Newark Police assistance after a large crowd gathered and a disturbance reportedly broke out inside the hospital's lobby.
Police managed to quell the issue and disperse over a dozen individuals who gathered at the hospital. No arrests or serious injuries were reported.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office will handle the investigation into the deadly shooting.
