According to Detective Captain Donald Scorzetti, on April 22, William Byrnes, a Lodi school security officer at the Washington School, sat down next to a substitute teacher in the teacher’s lounge when he observed her grab her throat.
The teacher signaling that she was choking and unable to speak and or breathe.
Byrnes asked her if she was choking and she nodded yes. He picked her up off the chair, positioned himself behind her and gave her several Heimlich thrusts.
The victim was able to expel the food that was lodged and began breathing again.
The victim was checked by the school nurse and required no further medical attention, added the captain.
