The Mercer County Narcotics Task Force concluded a two-week investigation last Friday with one arrest, and the seizure of $2,760 in marijuana and a handgun, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported.
According to police, on September 28th at approximately 2 p.m., officers executed search warrants at the New Trent Street home of 27-year-old Dawan Smith.
Police arrested Smith without incident as he exited the residence. A search of the property revealed a loaded .45 caliber handgun, a half-pound of marijuana, 13 bags of marijuana packaged for distribution and $1,055 in cash. The seized marijuana has an approximate street value of $2,760.
Authorities charged Smith with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute, possession with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park and possession of a weapon while committing a narcotics offense. He was released pending further court proceedings.
Despite having been charged, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
