A 17-year-old Linden girl was robbed of $140.00 Friday by a man she contacted on social media in attempts of purchasing an iPhone.
The girl told police that she contacted the man on a Facebook page where he was selling a black iPhone 6 for $140.00.
On Friday, the teen arranged to meet the man near the Linden Public Library on E. Henry Street at 11:30 a.m.
According to victim, the man arrived in a silver four-door Mazda driven by a heavyset dark skinned male in his 20’s.
The girl said she spoke to the passenger (who she described as in his late teens who wore a gray North Face hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants) shortly before he got out of the car and took her money without showing the phone.
When he got backin the car, the victim reportedly went into the passenger seat and sat on the suspect's lap in an attempt to prevent him from leaving without giving her the phone.
When the driver began to drive away, the passenger forced her out of the car the victim said.
According to police, the victim sustained some bruises on her arms and elbows and was treated at headquarters by the Linden Fire Department ambulance.
Police continue to warn residents to be cautious when making online purchases from strangers.
