Police investigating reports t of shots fired early this morning in Linden, placed two men in custody.
Gunfire was reported at around 12:22 a.m. in the area of Jackson Avenue where a silver Nissan was seen fleeing the scene, Captain James Sarnicki said.
Authorities said Sgt. Dan Tristao was on patrol on E. Elizabeth Avenue when he observed a silver Nissan Altima travelling east on E. Elizabeth Avenue before turning north onto Lincoln Street.
The sergeant pulled behind the Nissan as it pulled alongside the curb and stopped on the 100 block of Lincoln St. The sergeant noticed the passenger open the window, and then the car quickly pulled away from the curb.
Police then activated his overhead lights and pulled the vehicle over at E. Elizabeth Avenue and W. Baltimore Avenue. Additional officers doing a visual search of the vehicle at curbside on the 100 block of Lincoln Street where they discovered a .380 caliber handgun loaded with two rounds.
The Nissan’s occupants, Tyrone E. Crutchfield, Jr., 19, of Linden, and Thomas E. Taylor, Jr., 22, of Roselle, were placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.
Both men are being held in lieu of $75,000. bail with a court date set for December 5th.
Detectives are investigating whether these suspects are connected to another shooting incident on Saturday evening on the 1000 block of Nora Drive where a 16 year old Roselle boy was struck in the lower back by gunfire and taken to University Hospital in Newark.
Several residents also reported that their homes and vehicles were struck by gunshots.
