Linden Public Schools using window displays to uplift community
Linden Public Schools have invited all staff and families to display rainbows or other uplifting artwork in their doors and windows for the community to see as the district enters its second week of home learning.
The point of the displays is to show everyone that the district family is united and will get through the challenge of the coronavirus outbreak and school closures together.
Linden High School Spanish teacher Tania Miguelez first suggested the idea after seeing the movement started in Spain.
“In times like this, one of the most generous acts we can do is remind people that they are not alone,” she said. “We are all in this together. As educators, it is so important to make sure our students, parents and families feel supported in every way possible. Especially on an emotional level.”
Staff and students are also sharing photos of their artwork on social media with the district hashtag #LindenLearnsAtHome and the global movement’s #FromMyWindow hashtag.
Miguelez encouraged her students to create signs in Spanish to share in their windows.
“The students were so excited about this project,” she said. “Many of them mentioned how relaxing it was to get their mind off of what is happening and to participate in something positive.”
