Students at Linden High School engaged in a nationwide demonstration to remember the 17 students and staff killed at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., and to call for stricter gun laws.
Students walked out of class at 10 a.m. and held a sit-in in the school's hallways for 17 minutes in honor of the 17 students who were killed.
The names and information of each student was read over the school's loudspeaker during the sit-in.
“We support our students’ rights to free speech and encourage them to speak out on issues that they feel strongly about,” said Superintendent Danny A. Robertozzi.
“If they decide to exercise these rights peacefully and responsibly, we will support them in any way we can. Our only concern is to make sure they are safe while they make their voices heard.”
Linden High School has over 1,600 students and is located at 121 W. St. Georges Avenue in Linden.
