National Parks Service spokesman confirmed that approximately 3,000 visitors were evacuated from Liberty Island after a propane tank fire Monday afternoon.
According to authorities, at approximately 12:15 p.m. a propane tank caught fire on a construction site.
Officials say the fire was quickly extinguished, however, a construction worker was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Authorities say that although there was no damage to the monument, the park was evacuated as a precaution.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
