Heavy police activity in a neighborhood in Irvington Township had authorities apprehend nearly a dozen people late last night.
Police in tactical gear conducted a raid on a residential house on Welland Ave. where cops were seen taking about 10 individuals (including two woman) in handcuffs from the house shortly before 9 p.m.
Authorities would not speak on the circumstances involving the raid but residents on the block and surrounding area that contacted RLS Metro Breaking News said that several of the arrested individuals were known to conduct suspicious gambling operations for months.
"They go in and out of that house all day and all night long. I am surprised police did not run down on them a long time ago" a male homeowner said.
Police towed away about three vehicles during their operation that lasted for a little over an hour.
"They always brought a crowd of people around here and most people in the neighborhood believed that they were just having get togethers but some of us knew", the homeowner said.
According to residents on nearby Normandy Place, several of the arrested conducted "strange" operations on their block for a period of time before moving out of the house sometime last year.
"I am not sure if it was drugs or what but I do know that they always kept a bunch of people around this block", a Normandy Place resident said.
"I am glad they moved out before something tragic happened. We contacted police several times regarding these people, but I guess they just decided to get them now", the Normandy Place resident continued.
Several requests for information sent to Irvington Police were not returned.
