The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is actively investigating a tragic crash that claimed the life of one person in Newark's North Ward on Sunday night.
Authorities were alerted to the incident shortly before 9:50 p.m., prompting a quick response to the 200 block of Montclair Avenue.
Upon arrival, officials said rescue crews utilized the Jaws of Life to extricate two individuals trapped inside the vehicle.
According to The Essex County Prosecutor's Office, one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to University Hospital for treatment.
As investigators work to determine the cause of the crash, residents are reminded to continue exercising caution on the roads.
