Newark police are searching for a suspect who fired shots in a residential community late Sunday night near two local schools. 
The incident occurred around 10:10 p.m. on Somerset Street, near Newark’s History High School and Quitman Street Community School.
Officers responding to the scene found several shell casings but did not locate any victims.
Authorities were alerted by a ShotSpotter device, which detected the gunfire in the vicinity of the schools.
The suspect fled the area and remains at large.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
