Newark Police officials are crediting a ShotSpotter device for alerting them of a shooting in the city's West Ward Monday evening.
The upper Vailsburg section shooting happened around 11:27 p.m. near Rockland Terrace and Salem Street intersection.
Police arrived and found multiple shell casings, then alerted hospitals in the region to be on the lookout for potential gunshot victims.
After searching the scene, no injuries were reported.
Authorities closed the intersection of Salem and South Orange Avenue for the investigation.
Police reported no arrests in the shooting.
