Police in East Orange set up a crime scene that stretched the distance of Walnut and North Arlington street to investigate a shooting that erupted last night.
Gunfire broke out in the vicinity of Cicely L. Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts before 9:30 p.m. sending police rushing to the scene where they began to canvass the area for shell casings and possible victims.
East Orange authorities did not respond to requests for general information, but according to preliminary reports, EMS transported at least one person to University Hospital in an unknown condition.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office could not immediately confirm a homicide investigation at that location as of 2:37 a.m.
Officers at the crime scene collected several shell casings as they attempted to determine the motive for the shooting.
There were no confirmation of the school's direct involvement in the shooting.
The East Orange Police department has responded to multiple shootings/shots fired incidents with county authorities looking into about a half dozen homicides for 2017.
Thursday evenings shooting remains under investigation.
