Knife-Wielding Old Bridge Man Arrested After Hours-Long Standoff with Police

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Thomas J. Montagna of the Old Bridge Police Department announced that an Old Bridge man had been charged following a disturbance on July 9, 2024, in the Township of Old Bridge.Real EstateAt approximately 6:30 a.m. on July 9, 2024, authorities responded to a residence on Pensacola Street after receiving a report of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, they found Giovanni Chiarappa, 49, of Old Bridge, wielding a knife outside the residence.

Despite efforts to de-escalate the situation, Chiarappa retreated into the residence.

After hours of negotiations, the incident concluded peacefully when Chiarappa exited the residence without further incident.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with third-degree Terrorist Threats, third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, DP Simple Assault, and Harassment.
