Knife-Wielding Man Enters Chuck E Cheese in Wayne

A retired Bergen County Sheriff's officer quickly jumped into action after a man armed with a knife entered the Wayne Chuck E Cheese.

Police responded to the Route 23 Chuck E. Cheese for a report of a man armed with a knife inside the restaurant around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, police found James Burgess, a retired Bergen County Sheriff’s Officer, and a patron struggling to disarm suspect, later identified 51-year-old Anthony Campagna.

According to reports, Campagna was seen walking outside of the restaurant carrying an eight-inch long knife, but was quickly confronted as he walked into the establishment.

Burgess suffered a minor injury to his hand but refused medical treatment.

Campagna was arrested and was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and disorderly conduct.

His bail was set at $25,000.
