According to a statement released by Toms River Police, the incident happened at approximately 5:49 a.m. where multiple units responded to the intersection of Route 37 and Northampton Blvd for the report of a pedestrian struck.
Police say officers arrived on scene and found Ms. Anne M. Lovallo, 56, of Keyport unresponsive.
Officials say lifesaving attempts were made, however Ms. Lovallo was pronounced deceased on scene.
While Ms. Lovallo was assisting a disabled motor home with an attached trailer, operated by Rocky Sal Granata, 60 transient of California, a vehicle driven by Mr. Michael Martinez, 62 years old of Jackson, traveling eastbound, struck the trailer which ultimately struck the victim where she was standing between the trailer and motor home.
The motor home and trailer was disabled in the right travel lane with no operating lights while still dark and foggy.
Mr. Martinez was very cooperative and provided OCPO consent to search his phone, and also consented to a voluntary blood sample which was provided.
There are no anticipated charges for Mr. Martinez at this state of the investigation.
The accident is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Adam Koeppen.
Also responding on scene was Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Crime Scene Investigators and Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office.
