Department of Public Safety Captain Derek is reporting that police are investigating a spike in reports of sick or injured individuals in the city of Newark.
According to officials, the first reported incident was called into police at 8:12 a.m. from a location in Park Place.
Since that time there have been an 9 additional cases reported at various locations throughout the city.
Police are investigating the likelihood the influx is being caused by individuals having ingested synthetic marijuana.
Detectives from the Police Division’s Narcotics and Criminal Intelligence Units have initiated an investigation in an effort to determine the origins and causes of the sickness.
Police have also contacted the Drug Monitoring Initiative.
According to Captain Glen, in late April the city had an influx of individuals also sickened after ingesting synthetic marijuana.
Caprain Glen said, in May police made well over 20 arrests and the reported incident of those sickened by K2 dropped significantly
The reported incidents subsided after the arrest of numerous suspects.
