Juvenile Possibly Targeted in Central Ward Shooting That Struck Home

A home in Newark’s Central Ward was struck by gunfire Monday evening, but no injuries were reported, according to authorities.NinosThe incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. when a ShotSpotter device alerted police to gunfire near 208 Spruce Street.

Responding officers taped off the area after locating shell casings and evidence of bullet strikes on the residence.

Police confirmed that all occupants inside the home were safe and accounted for following a thorough search of the property and surrounding neighborhood.

Investigators are now working to determine if a juvenile found nearby on Howard Street was the intended target. The youth reported that a gunman fired at him while he was in the area, but he was unharmed.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
