Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman announce that on June 19, the Passaic Police Department identified and charged a thirteen-year-old juvenile for an assault on a resident of Passaic and her son.
According to police, the assault occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. on June 19 on Lexington Avenue near the intersection with Monroe Street.
A thirteen-year-old and his mother were walking on Lexington Avenue when the juvenile perpetrator approached them, reports say. When the mother stepped in front of the juvenile perpetrator, he struck her causing her to temporarily lose consciousness and fall to the sidewalk.
The juvenile perpetrator also struck the juvenile victim in the face, officials say.
Medical professionals treated the adult victim at the hospital for facial fractures and a concussion, police say.
Reports say that the juvenile actor was charged with one count each of aggravated assault and simple assault, and he was released to his parents pending an appearance in the Family Court.
A juvenile delinquency complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, the juvenile is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
