Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, has announced a significant development in a case that has been closely watched by the community. AdAccording to Spokesman Robert Florida, an Essex County jury has delivered a verdict of guilt for two men charged with first-degree robbery for their role in a terrifying armed robbery at the Kennedy Fried Chicken in Irvington.

The incident, which occurred on January 19, 2022, involved two men, 35-year-old Ricotson Dolisca of Irvington and 37-year-old Gary Rhymes of East Orange.

Surveillance footage captured the duo inside the Kennedy Fried Chicken as they carried out a harrowing armed robbery, forcibly taking a customer's wallet, phone, and even his clothes at gunpoint.

Fast action by law enforcement led to the arrest of both individuals shortly after the incident, with the victim's property and a firearm in their possession.

Following a two-day trial presided over by Superior Court Judge John Gizzo, the jury deliberated for two days before delivering their verdict. Both Dolisca and Rhymes were found guilty of first-degree robbery and second-degree conspiracy charges.

AdIn addition to these convictions, Dolisca also faced further charges, including second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, receiving stolen property, and possession of a large-capacity magazine.

Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Dellera, who prosecuted the case, praised the diligent work of the jury in carefully reviewing the evidence and returning a just verdict.

He acknowledged the bravery of the victim, who demonstrated remarkable courage by testifying in court and facing the individuals responsible for the ordeal he endured.

Dellera emphasized, "Fortunately, the weapon was not fired, and there were no lasting physical injuries in this case. This verdict would not have been possible, but for a brave victim who was willing to come to court and face the individuals who did this to him. I hope the verdict brings peace and a sense of security to the victim and his family."

The sentencing for Ricotson Dolisca and Gary Rhymes is scheduled for January 19, 2024, before Judge Gizzo. Dolisca could face a maximum sentence of up to 30 years, while Rhymes could receive a sentence of up to 20 years.

This verdict serves as a reminder of the commitment to justice in the community and the importance of standing up against criminal acts that threaten the safety and well-being of its residents.
