A Passaic County jury returned guilty verdicts to a man who stood trial for a 2015 triple shooting that resulted in two fatalities in Passaic according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.
According to Prosecutor Valdes, a jury selection commenced in late November 2017, and the trial started on early January and lasted until January 26th for Luis Del Camen, 26, of Passaic.
After five hours of deliberations, the jury returned guilty verdicts on two counts of first-degree Murder, two counts of first-degree Felony Murder, one count of first degree Attempted Murder, first-degree Robbery, second-degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose and second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun Prosecutor Valdes said.
Prosecutor Valdes said, the evidence presented to the jury during the trial demonstrated that on June 20, 2015, the two deceased victims EnPaul Cantero, 24, of Garfield, New Jersey, and Denisse Gonzalez, 22, of Paterson, New Jersey, were standing outside of the Cloud 9 Lounge, located at 4 Market Street in Passaic, New Jersey, along with the surviving victim, Amin Rivas, 24, of Garfield, New Jersey.
At that time, the defendant approached Cantero and shot him at close range before pulling a sizeable Cuban-link chain from his neck, then shot Rivas in the chest.
The jury also heard testimony that the bullet traveled through Rivas’ body and struck Gonzalez in the heart, as she stood behind Rivas on the sidewalk.
The defendant, is exposed to a minimum sentence of Life Imprisonment with thirty (30) years of parole ineligibility and a maximum sentence of Life Imprisonment with No Parole.
The sentencing of the defendant is scheduled for March 23, 2018, before the Honorable Marybel Mercado-Ramirez in Passaic County Superior Court Prosecutor Valdes said.
Senior Assistant Prosecutor Eileen M. Kane represented the State during the trial while Paul Chiarmonte, Esq represented the defendant.
