Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said on Wednesday, March 2, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit arrested a 47-year-old Jersey City man on charges he allegedly sexually assaulted his 9-year-old stepdaughter.
Officials said the crimes occurred in November of 2021 and March of 2022 inside a Jersey City residence.
The defendant's name is being withheld to protect the victim's identity.
He is charged with Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The suspect was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in Jersey City and remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
The Prosecutor's Office has filed a detention motion, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, March 8.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit with the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
