Police in Wayne have captured an alleged porch pirate from Jersey City suspected of stealing packages from porches in the township. On Tuesday afternoon, July 30th, Wayne Police Officers responded to a report of a package theft in the Heritage Manor neighborhood.
A resident observed a male suspect taking packages from the front porch of his home through a security camera shortly after their delivery.
One of the stolen packages contained multiple cell phones. The resident provided the police with the suspect’s physical description and vehicle details.
Members of the Wayne Police Patrol Division and Detective Bureau launched a search for the suspect. Detective Sergeant Mark Ciavirella spotted the suspect traveling east on Ratzer Road and conducted a traffic stop, soon backed up by other officers.
Inside the vehicle, they found open packages and an Amazon delivery vest matching the resident’s description. The packages contained the cell phones and other items the resident was expecting.
The resident confirmed the packages were addressed to his home.
The suspect, Mr. Cesar A. Feliz Moquete, 28, of Jersey City, was arrested and charged with two counts of theft. He was released by bail reform guidelines.
The charges against him are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
