A 19-year-old Jersey City mother and her boyfriend have been charged with beating her infant son.
According to authorities, on March 23rd Omayra M. Medina, 19, and Delfin I. Castillo, 21, took the child, who was 3 months old at the time, to the Jersey City Medical Center for a chest x-ray to check for pneumonia. However, medical staff discovered multiple rib fractures and bruising on the boy's chest and back.
When questioned, Medina and Castillo both denied causing the injuries and claimed they did not know how the injuries occurred.
The child, now 11 months old, was subsequently evaluated and doctors found signs of multiple rib fractures, a collarbone fracture, possible left femur (leg) fracture and a right humerus (arm) fracture, that according to doctors were no accidents, according to criminal complaint.
Authorities have charged Medina and Castillo, with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
At their initial court appearances on Nov. 9th, both were ordered not to have any contact with the child and were ultimately released with conditions of supervision.
It is not immediately clear if the child where the child is now.
