Jersey City Man Shot Multiple Times Dies; Charges Upgraded to Murder for Suspects

A 24-year-old Jersey City man shot multiple times last month has died, authorities confirmed today.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez on Dec. 12, shortly after 11 a.m., Rashay Washington, 24, of Jersey City was pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center.

The medical examiner determined the cause of Washington’s death to be multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of his death was homicide.

Davon Cooper, 23, of Jersey City and Aaron Enix, 23, of Jersey City, were arrested shortly after the initial shooting incident.

The Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor has now upgraded the charges against the two suspects from attempted murder to murder and a new bail amount of $1,000,000 cash only has been set for both suspects.

The first court appearance for Cooper and Enix on the murder charge is tentatively scheduled for today at 3 p.m. in Central Judicial Processing Court.

On the day of the incident, Jersey City Police Officers were dispatched to 62 Claremont Avenue in Jersey City on a report of shots fired at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, police found a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his body and extremities. The victim, identified as Rashay Washington, was transported by emergency medical services to the hospital where he was treated for his wounds.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is now actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
