Jersey City Man Sentenced to 18 Years for 2021 Fatal Stabbing

Authorities in Hudson County announced on Friday, June 9, the sentencing of a Jersey City man involved in a fatal stabbing two years prior.

Honorable Vincent Militello, J.S.C., sentenced Steven Bardsley, 57, to 18 years in New Jersey State Prison, due to Bardsley's involvement in the 2021 stabbing death of Steven Bochman, 54, in Jersey City, said Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. 

According to Hudson County officials, Bardsley pleaded guilty to one count of Aggravated Manslaughter on Wednesday, March 29.

The sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act.

Officials say that Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Andrew Baginski represented the State in this matter. 

Authorities say on Saturday, July 24, 2021, just after 10 p.m., the Jersey City Police responded to the area of 151 Cambridge Avenue, where they found a lifeless adult male victim.

The victim was later identified as Steven Bochman, with a stab wound to the neck.

Officials said the victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 10:20 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner's Office determined the cause of death to be a stab wound to the neck and the manner to be Homicide, according to officials.
