A Jersey City Police Officer was transported to a hospital in Essex County to be treated for a gunshot wound Tuesday evening.
Elizabeth Police and EMS units were called to an address in the 70’s block of West Jersey Street to investigate reports of shots fired around 5:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, police found a Jersey City Officer suffering a bullet wound in his groin at that location.
The officer was reportedly removing his holster belt when gunfire from his service weapon rang out.
He was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he is expected to recover.
