According to information released by The Honorable Mayor Tony Vauss, more than 120 seniors attended the event, which included food, entertainment, and a heartfelt appreciation for the community’s elders.

For the past ten years, Mayor Vauss has prioritized programs and events that serve Irvington’s seniors, recognizing their contributions to the town.

His ongoing commitment ensures that older residents remain active, engaged, and valued members of the community.

The celebration featured a well-prepared meal, including chicken, fish, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese.

Guests were also gifted candy and roses, adding to the festive spirit of the event.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was a performance by the "Seniors in the Spotlight" group, who entertained attendees with an energetic country-western cowboy two-step routine.

A unique and highly anticipated tradition at the event was the annual public safety auction, where members of the police and fire departments, along with elected officials, were "auctioned off" for a dinner date with senior attendees.

Each guest received a raffle ticket, and the winners enjoyed an evening out with one of the community’s first responders.

This lighthearted activity has become a beloved part of the celebration, bringing laughter and excitement to all involved.

“This event isn’t just about Valentine’s Day—it’s about showing our seniors how much they mean to this town,” said Mayor Vauss. “They’ve built this community, and it’s my duty to make sure they feel appreciated and supported.”

Council members Brown, Vauss Jr., and Hudley were present at the event, while the remaining council members sent their well wishes but were not in attendance.

During the event, Mayor Vauss also announced the launch of a new computer training class for seniors at the Lebby C. Jones Senior Citizen Theatre.

The program, funded by computers purchased by the Mayor himself, aims to help seniors develop digital literacy skills, enabling them to navigate modern technology more confidently.

Beyond Valentine’s Day, Mayor Vauss continues to support the senior community through various initiatives, including trips to Atlantic City, Senior Appreciation Nights with entertainment and gifts, and wellness checks to ensure their well-being.

His efforts have built a strong sense of community, as seen in the gratitude and appreciation expressed by Irvington’s seniors.

The celebration also recognized Black History Month, featuring a special guest who recited a powerful poem, adding historical and cultural significance to the gathering.
