EMS transported a male victim to University Hospital suffering serious injuries after being struck by a Irvington Police car near Newark's City Hall Thursday afternoon.
The incident happened shortly before 1 p.m. in the area of Broad Street and Court Street when the unmarked Irvington Police Department vehicle struck the man, knocking him to the ground at that location.
Newark Police and EMS that arrived to the scene administered first aid to the man who they reportedly found unconscious.
The vehicle's windshield was badly damaged and its emergency lights were activated when first responders arrived to the scene.
It is not immediately clear if the vehicle's emergency lights were activated during the time the man was struck.
Officials from Irvington did not return repeated calls for general information regarding the incident.
The victim's injuries were not immediately reported to be life threatening.
