Hillside's Mayor Angela R. Garretson is pleased to announce the hiring of neighboring Irvington Township mayor Tony Vauss as a supervisor in the Department of Public Works division.
According to public records, Mayor Vauss started the position on Sept. 5. and is expected to serve to assist Hillside's DPW to become more efficient due to his nearly two-decade employment experience in the Irvington's DPW Hillside's mayor said.
Public record shows that Mayor Vauss currently earns $115,000 as the 'part time' leader of the Township.
The salary includes a $40,000 increase that Irvington Municipal Council members approved in July of 2014. The increase went into effect on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2014, public records showed.
According to a 2016 OPRA report, the mayor took home a total salary of about $198,000 that included several stipends for worked performed in various departments in the Township.
In May, Irvington Township employees were asked to take a two-day furlough for a total of 12-months as city leaders attempt to upright a $3 million budget deficit.
"I am excited to have him apart of my administration and will do well organizing our DPW," Hillside Mayor Garretson said.
Other officials around New Jersey are elected and serve on a part-time basis and perform paid duties for different municipalities.
