An Irvington man today was sentenced to 10 years in state prison after almost killing a man in 2013 during a parking space dispute.
Marcus Martin, 33, plead guilty to an attempted murder charge back on December 15. Despite Prosecutors' 12-year sentence recommendation, Superior Court Judge Martin Cronin gave Martin 10 years.
Martin must serve 8½ years before becoming eligible for parole. Martin will receive credit for the nearly year and a half he served.
On September 1, 2013, Martin's mother was hosting a Labor Day party when the shooting occurred.
Martin admitted leaving his mother's home to confront the victim, who according to reports lived across the street.
According to authorities, Martin became angry after a dispute over a parking space which led to the shooting, prosecutors said.
During the hearing today, Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Giordano, expressed the impact that this incident caused on the victim, saying he "had his whole life uprooted."
The victim was in the hospital in a comma for a portion of his almost month long stay in the hospital, according to reports.
