Irvington Man Charged with Robbing, Shooting Hillside Man who Offered him a Ride

A 51-year-old Hillside man was transported to an area hospital after he was shot inside car allegedly by an Irvington man he met while playing basketball at a Newark park.

According to authorities, yesterday at approximately 9 p.m., Ibnahmad Domino, 20, of Irvington, was arrested for the shooting and robbery of Altariq Beyah, 51, of Hillside.

Officials say police responded to Bailey Avenue in the area of North Broad Street on a report of a motor vehicle crash and shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers found Domino and Beyah seated in a red 2000 Nissan Altima which had crashed into a utility pole.

Officers began to render aid to the two men but as they removed Domino from the car, a black loaded Taurus 9mm handgun with hollow point bullets,

was discovered tucked in the rear of his waistband according to police.

Officers seized the gun and placed Domino under arrest.

Officials say the driver, Beyah, was transported to University Hospital in Newark with a gunshot wound to his pelvic area.

A preliminary investigation revealed Domino attempted to rob Beyah while inside the car. The struggle resulted in Domino shooting Beyah, causing him to panic and ultimately accelerate the vehicle, striking a utility pole on Bailey Avenue.

Officials added Beyah reportedly met Domino at the basketball court of Weequahic Park in Newark where he offered to give him a ride. 

Police charged Domino with Robbery, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Possession of Hollow Point Ammunition.

Police say he is being held at Hillside police headquarters pending transport to the Union County Jail.

The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.
