Union Police Department responded to the area to the 1700 block of Manor Dr. to meet up with Irvington Police Department Officers regarding a reported carjacking yesterday at approximately 10:46 p.m.

Once on scene and after speaking to the victim, police determined that the carjacking occurred in Union near the border of Irvington.

The victim, a 24-year-old Flemington resident, had finished holiday shopping and had stopped to visit a friend who lived in the area. She parked her car and was walking towards her friends’ apartment when two men came up from behind her and grabbed her arm.

One of the men threatened to shoot her as he took her backpack, purse, phone, and car keys.

The men drove away in the 2010 BMW, model 328i.

Officers on scene were able to track the location of the stolen car to 18th Ave. in Newark.

Sergeant Michael Wittevrongel responded to that area and found the car parked in front of American Fried Chicken as two men exited the vehicle.

According to police, officers apprehended Allante Hicks, who was near the car.

Additional units responded to assist in the search for the second suspect. Although police were able to locate suspect near an abandoned building on Springfield Avenue, he managed to get away.

The victim was brought to the scene, where she identified the man as one of the two carjackers.

Hicks was charged with armed robbery and theft and is being held at the Township of Union Police Department, pending transfer to the Union County Jail.

His bail was set at $100,000.

The stolen BMW was recovered and was towed back to the police department for additional investigation by the crime scene Detectives.

No injuries were reported.
