Irvington Gunfire Injures One

Irvington Township

EMS rushed one person to University hospital after gunfire erupted on one of Irvington's streets late last night.

Residents in the area of Grove Street and Tichenor Terrace dialed 911 at around 11:15 p.m. after hearing multiple rounds of gunfire that exploded in the area, breaking the seldom silence of the evening in a neighbor that residents say they've become immune to random spurts of violence.

Police and EMS arrived to the scene to locate one person suffering injury after reportedly being struck by several bullets according to reports.

The condition of the victim was only reported as serious as of 2:30 a.m.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation by Irvington Police.

The nine roughly nine block neighborhood (that's boxed in by two elementary schools and the Garden State Parkway) have been reported as one of Essex County's most notoriously dilapidated and dangerous communities.

There were no immediate reports of arrests.
