Authorities in Somerset County announced the status of an ongoing investigation into a residential fire on Mountain Avenue, North Plainfield.
According to Prosecutor McDonald, on Sunday, June 4, at approximately 3:12 a.m. North Plainfield Fire Department and North Plainfield Police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a residential fire on Mountain Avenue, North Plainfield.
Prosecutor McDonald said fire companies from Bridgewater/ Finderne, Bound Brook, Green Brook, Watchung, Warren, Plainfield, and South Plainfield also responded to extinguish the residential fire.
Emergency medical personnel from North Plainfield, Watchung, Union County Rehab, and a JFK Medical Center EMS responded to the scene to render aid to two residents that sustained injuries because of the fire.
According to authorities, both male adult residents were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, one remains in critical condition.
Prosecutor McDonald stated that detectives from the North Plainfield Police, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Fire Investigation Unit, and Fire Officials from North Plainfield responded to the scene to conduct the fire investigation, which remains open.
Investigators have not released the origin and cause of the fire.
The fire has been preliminarily categorized as non-suspicious.
