Investigation Underway in Downtown Newark Bus Stop Stabbing

Newark authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Leroy Jones, 54, who is wanted for questioning in connection with a violent stabbing incident that occurred on February 13.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., officers responded to reports of a stabbing at a bus stop on the 1000 block of Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard around 6 p.m. 

Upon arrival, police found a victim suffering from multiple deep facial lacerations and bleeding profusely.  

The victim, who was accompanied by her boyfriend at the time, was approached by a Black female suspect wearing a white shirt and black pants. 

A dispute ensued between the two women, escalating quickly when the suspect produced a razor and slashed the victim’s face several times before fleeing south on Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard. 

The injured victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment.  

Authorities are now urging anyone with information regarding Jones' whereabouts to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
