Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind a shooting incident that unfolded in Newark's West Ward on Monday afternoon.
Officers from Irvington and Newark responded to reports of shots fired in the vicinity of 182 Vermont Avenue at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, law enforcement units discovered a male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.
The victim was promptly transported to University Hospital for medical treatment and is expected to recover.
As investigators piece together the events leading up to the shooting, the motive behind this incident remains the subject of an active and ongoing investigation.
There have been no additional reports of injuries related to this incident.
At this time, no arrests have been announced by the police.
