Investigation Underway After Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Freehold Borough

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Freehold Borough on Wednesday morning, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Thursday.NinosThe incident occurred on August 7, 2024, at approximately 11:23 a.m., when officers from the Freehold Borough Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision near the intersection of State Highway 33 Business (Park Avenue) and Ann Street.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 65-year-old male was driving a 2022 Ram ProMaster cargo van westbound on State Highway 33 Business when he struck a pedestrian crossing the roadway from a nearby parking lot.

The pedestrian, identified as 76-year-old Mr. Frank Tommasini of Manalapan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene following the incident. 

The investigation, which involves the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Freehold Borough Police Department, is ongoing.
