Investigation Continues in Deadly Shooting in Newark's South Ward

Authorities are continuing their investigation into a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 22-year-old man in Newark's South Ward last month.NinosA preliminary investigation indicated that on November 18, around 5 p.m., police responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 100 block of Renner Avenue near Bergen Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a severely injured man who had been struck by gunfire.

The victim, identified as Mr. Ahmid Y. Richardson of Newark, was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting.

Detectives canvassed the area, searching for additional victims and collecting evidence, but no arrests have been made as of yet.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the investigation and has urged anyone with information to come forward.

Authorities are asking residents to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office or Newark Police if they have any details that could assist in solving this case.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
