Authorities today confirmed that a Newark man committed suicide while detained.
Raymond Hyman, 54, of Newark, was found unresponsive Wednesday in the city police department's Green Street lockup, according to Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Katherine Carter.
Hyman was pronounced dead at 6:59 p.m.
The autopsy reveled that Hyman died after he hung himself using a piece of his clothing.
Hyman had been arrested April 14 on bail jumping, robbery, and handgun possession charges, authorities said.
