Injuries Reported in Senior Citizen High-Rise Building Fire in Newark

EMS rushed a male victim, who reportedly suffered burns to the hands and back, to St. Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston after a fire ignited inside a senior citizen building in Newark's North Ward overnight.

Fire broke out in an apartment on the lower floors at the Stephen Crane senior citizen building that's located at 801 North 6th Street a little after 3:30 a.m. sending firefighters and rescue crews to the scene according to reports.

Firefighters were able to make entry to the building and extinguish the fire within minutes reports said.

The victim's injuries were not immediately reported as life threatening.

A search of the building had no other injured victims.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Newark Fire Officials.
