Police detained at least two potential suspects wanted for firing shots at a group of males in Newark's North Ward Monday afternoon, injuring one person.
Newark authorities requested assistance from East Orange Police after a unit reportedly observed several males wearing dark clothing fire multiple rounds of bullets on North 13th Street shortly before 4:25 p.m.
The suspects fled the scene on foot, prompting a pursuit and a building search with the assistance of the Newark Emergency Services Unit.
No one at the scene suffered injuries, but officials at University Hospital notified police when a gunshot victim entered the emergency room suffering injuries.
The walk-in gunshot victim injuries were not immediately reported as life-threatening.
Police back at the scene searched for a third suspect wanted for the shooting, but it is unclear if the assailant was ever captured.
With only three days into the new year, the city has experienced several shots fired incidents -with injuries- and at least one confirmed murder which the Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating.
The motive for Monday's shooting is under investigation.
