Police in Newark transported an infant to University Hospital for an evaluation after a good samaritan found the child wandering on a street in the city's Central Ward Tuesday night.
According to preliminary reports, shortly before 9:45 p.m., police were called to the vicinity of Springfield Avenue and Prince Street to investigate reports of a child found wandering near the intersection.
Upon arrival, police say a good samaritan told them that the female child -around the age of 2- was alone at that location.
Police say the guardian of the child was ultimately found in the 50's block of Irvine Turner Boulevard and reunited with the infant at the hospital.
The incident is under investigation and there were no immediate reports of charges filed against the guardians at this time.
