Infant Dies After Being Left Inside Car in New Jersey

Authorities in Ocean County are investigating a tragic incident in which a four-month-old infant died after being found in distress inside a vehicle in Lakewood.

According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, officers from the Lakewood Township Police Department responded to a call around 1:45 p.m. on March 18, regarding a baby left inside a car on 5th Street. 

Upon arrival, officers found emergency responders from Hatzolah Medical Services attempting to provide lifesaving aid to the child.  

The infant was immediately transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced deceased.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. 

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Lakewood Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit are all working together to determine how and why the child was left inside the vehicle.
